he Aire and Calder rivers form the boundary on two sides of the rough triangle that is Methley. The third side was laid down by the boundary of the lord of the manor's estate - "The Parting of the Manors".

This 'middle lea', Methley, the land between the rivers, lea, meaning "meadow, forest clearing" supports a conglomeration of hamlets: Woodrow, Churchside, Pindergreen and Watergate, Scholey Hill, Foxholes and Methley Lanes, Methley Junction, Low Common, Lower Mickletown and Mickletown. The latter, in turn, is divided into many small residential territories.

Most of these hamlets are ancient; some were newer industrial settlements. Some have now changed or disappeared. Together they make up the larger village of Methley.
